Real estate

The Algarve region, in Portugal, is in the Top 3 most popular destinations for leisure time in 2023, according to a recently released report by the Spanish consultancy Mabrian Technologies, which analyzes the world’s destinations likely to be trending. At the top of the list is Bali, Indonesia. The second place belongs to Crete, in Greece, followed by the Algarve.

To arrive at these data, the consultancy Mabrian analyzed more than 700 destinations around the world, combining variants such as nature and well-being, active tourism, location positioning, accommodation, the offer in terms of hotels and the connections, or the different ways to get there. Of these 700 places, it screened just a dozen, identifying the destinations that provide the best balance and the best cost-quality ratio, between different factors: the offer of nature and well-being products, the relevance of active tourism, the hotel occupancy rate in 2022, the growth of new air routes and the average price of different types of accommodation, set for the coming months.

Mabrian’s conclusions indicate that Bali, Indonesia is a destination that has increased new air routes by 45% and occupancy rate by 115%, in addition to offering visitors an average price for accommodation in hotel units, which is very competitive. On the other hand, Crete, in Greece and being considered an essentially summer destination, broke records in 2022, a year marked by the absence of Russian tourism, which until then was considered one of the main markets. The consultant also points out that Crete saw a 17% growth in both international and domestic routes.

Regarding the Algarve, which reached a prestigious third place, the Spanish consultancy Mabrian Technologies, refers that the South of Portugal combines a series of interesting factors, highlighting the offer of tourist products, extremely competitive accommodation prices (in their various aspects) and a significant increase of flights to Faro airport. The Spanish consultancy’s indicators give national tourism in the Algarve an index of active tourism, nature and well-being of 60% (against 54% and 57% for Bali and Crete, respectively). On the other hand, they reveal that in times of hotel capacity and based on 2022, it is expected that the occupancy rate in the Algarve will register an increase of around 22% during the whole year of 2023. regions of southern Portugal, Mabrian indicates a value of 86.39 euros.

This analysis, which made it possible to draw up a ranking of the most popular destinations in 2023, was based on the global evolution of the interests of millions of tourists in the last year and also on the spontaneous records that visitors make on the TripAdvisor platform, where, according to the Spanish consultant, clearly perceives that “the interest in tourist activities related to

nature, active tourism and well-being has increased substantially since 2019, which suggests that it is a trend that seems to continue to grow”.

In these conclusions, Mabrian refers to the report by the Portuguese publication Publituris, which indicates that “the motivations and interests shown by travelers in this renaissance of tourism have undergone structural changes that have affected trends and are likely to continue in the future”. On the other hand, the Spanish consultant points out that 2022 will be remembered as the year of recovery for many traditional destinations in Europe, the Caribbean and the Middle East, also stating that after the end of the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic in the world hotel sector, in 2022, tourists returned to their habits of traveling within their countries or to international destinations.
