Portugal voted the world’s cheapest country to live in

Portugal was voted, according to Forbes magazine, as the cheapest country to live in, leading a podium of 10 places from countries around the world.

In a list released this Monday about the cheapest countries in the world to live in, and depending on the point of view of those who arrive from the United States of America to the territory of Portuguese, Portugal appears, distinctively, ahead of all others, to lead, in this way, a solid first place.

“The list in question is for those looking for a better, more accessible life, or just a way to escape the frenetic pace of life, violence, politics or division,” explains the respected American magazine, which specializes and focused on business and economics.

The designation is intended, inter alia, for citizens of the United States of America who wish to leave their jobs and subsequently change their lives for the better. This list, which is headed by Portugal, is based on data from International Living, which every year tries to disseminate the best countries, on a global scale, to take advantage of retirement and live well.

About Portugal, the publication explains that the cost of living in the country is lower compared to what is in the United States of America. “It’s a good time” to come live in Portugal, says Jennifer Stevens of International Living, quoted by Forbes, justifying her statement with the current “strength of the dollar” in contrast to that of the euro.

The magazine also praises Portugal for its safety, for the climate, but above all, for the cost of living. This last reason is essentially what leads the country to this distinction in relation to the others.

“A bachelor could live well with about $2,000 [1,895 euros] per month, all inclusive (even could do it with less in rural areas),” he added.

In addition, he adds that it is predictable that cities such as Porto and Lisbon will become more expensive, but leaves three suggestions for those who want to move to Portugal: Lagos, Vilamoura and Tavira.

The Forbes list continues with Mexico and Panama completing the podium, taking second and third place respectively. Spain is also on the list in sixth place, followed by Greece and France.

Here is the complete list of the cheapest countries in the world for an American to live, currently, in order from the cheapest to the least:

1º – Portugal;
2º – México;
3º – Panamá;
4º – Equador;
5º – Costa Rica;
6º – Espanha;
7º – Grécia;
8º – França;
9º (ex aequo) – Itália;
9º (ex aequo) – Tailândia.
